Attention Aspiring College Graduates! Move to Ohio for Best Opportunities

Although recent college graduates may be dreaming of moving to one of the coasts, a recently released guide for graduates suggests the Midwest may be best. Trulia, a national online real estate site, partnered with LinkedIn to rate 40 of America’s strongest job markets based on what each market offers recent college grads.

Ohio is the only state capturing two spots in the top 10 of Trulia’s Graduate Opportunity Index. Columbus ranked number five, and Cincinnati rounded out the top 10. Both cities scored more than 90 percent in terms of affordability.

Trulia’s Graduate Opportunity Index ranked metropolitan areas based on three criteria: (1) LinkedIn’s New Grad Job Score, which rates metros based on the share of job openings suitable for recent college grads, (2) Trulia’s New Grad Affordability Score, which is the share of rental units considered affordable to new grads based on their median salary, and (3) each market’s share of total population between the ages of 22 and 30, with a college degree.

Ohio’s strong economy and real-estate outlook, as well as the number of millennials moving to the state, played a key role in the index rankings.
