New GE Global Operations Center Officially Opens in Cincinnati

General Electric’s continued growth in Ohio was illustrated Oct. 25 when Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE, held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of the company’s Global Operations Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The state-of-the-art, 338,000-square-foot building located on Cincinnati’s riverbank is part of GE’s global initiative to consolidate operations into four locations worldwide. The Cincinnati Center is the third opened by the company and serves North America. The other three centers are in Pudong, China; Budapest, Hungary; and Monterrey, Mexico.

The Cincinnati Center houses approximately 1,000 people working in finance, accounting, human resources, IT and procurement services. General Electric is expected to hire a total of 1,800 professionals by the end of 2017. The center’s current employees include:

• 21 nationalities represented.
• 25 languages spoken.
• 50 percent women.
• 12 percent veteran new hires in 2016.

Shane Fitzsimmons, GE’s senior vice president and head of global operations, told the Cincinnati Business Courier that several data points sold him on Cincinnati, including a talented, ready workforce in areas like digital, information technology and project management as well as a location that costs less than other prospective sites.
