Sixteen companies in Southwest Ohio received a JobsOhio Inclusion Grant (JOIG) in 2020, which supported the creation of 90 jobs and the retention of 317 existing jobs. Statewide, the JOIG awarded over $4 million in grant funding during its first phase.

The JOIG exists to provide financial support for eligible projects in designated distressed communities and/or for businesses owned by underrepresented populations across the state. The COVID-19 pandemic magnified the challenges small businesses face with accessing the capital needed for growth.

Making a Difference for Businesses

JOIG support is intended for small to medium-sized companies with eligible projects. Eligible recipients include companies within JobsOhio’s 10 targeted industries and business functions.

“It allowed us to plan for investment into technology as a small business competing with larger outfits,” said Laurence Jones, president and co-founder of RiskVersity, LLC. “Technology is a way to level the playing field. That grant will help us with software to be competitive in the marketplace.”

Grant decisions for the program are based on several project factors, including but not limited to, company location, company ownership, jobs created and/or retained, and project-fixed asset investment.
