JobsOhio Board of Directors Holds Public Meeting In Findlay
FINDLAY – The JobsOhio Board of Directors held its quarterly public meeting at Marathon Petroleum Corporation in Findlay on Thursday, March 30th. The meeting included a summary of JobsOhio’s performance and financial position as well as an update on the Northwest Ohio region.
JobsOhio President and Chief Investment Officer John Minor reviewed JobsOhio’s 2016 results, noting JobsOhio worked on 284 projects with companies that committed to create 20,603 new jobs and $4.6 billion in new capital investments. Minor added that JobsOhio’s strong financial position has allowed the company to establish new programs to make Ohio more attractive to jobs creators.
“With JobsOhio’s growth, we are able to add more resources to attract jobs and investment to Ohio,” said Minor. “In 2016, JobsOhio invested more in new economic development programs such as research and development, talent acquisition and site authentication, and increased its project pipeline significantly.”
Minor added that Ohio shined in Site Selection magazine’s 2016 rankings, placing in the top five in both total projects (No. 2) and in projects per capita (No. 3) in the country. Findlay ranked as the No. 1 micropolitan for the third consecutive year.
“JobsOhio has been a huge partner in all of the success Findlay and our economy has enjoyed for the last few years,” said Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik. The City of Findlay’s partnership with officials in the private sector, Hancock County and the Regional Growth Partnership (RGP) has also been essential in the city’s growth, Mayor Mihalik added.
During a regional update, RGP President and CEO Dean Monske said those strong partnerships were essential to making 2016 the third consecutive year that the Northwest Ohio region set records in number of projects, jobs created and capital investment. Monske said he is optimistic that RGP can continue its success in 2017, adding that its current project pipeline is as strong as it has been in the history of the organization.
Marathon Pipe Line President Tim Aydt provided an update on how natural gases and natural gas liquids move through 2.6 million miles of pipelines throughout the United States. He said the exploration of Utica and Marcellus shale plays are driving billions of investment dollars in pipeline infrastructure, and has had a positive impact on job creation and the economy in Ohio.
