JobsOhio Board of Directors Hold Public Meeting in Columbus

COLUMBUS – The JobsOhio Board of Directors held its quarterly public meeting at Columbus State Community College. The meeting included a visit from Ohio Governor John R. Kasich, a summary of JobsOhio’s performance and financial position and an update on its Talent Acquisition Program.

Governor Kasich opened the meeting with an overview of Ohio’s business climate, mentioning Chief Executive magazine improving Ohio’s ranking in its Best States to do Business list from 41st in 2011 to 10th today. Kasich also discussed JobsOhio’s significant project wins and its team with industry experience. “The JobsOhio people are doing great because they have a good culture,” said Kasich.

JobsOhio President and Chief Investment Officer John Minor reviewed quarterly results and highlighted the payroll of new jobs. “In the third quarter of 2016, we worked on 60 projects with companies that committed to create 4,855 new jobs and $733 million in new capital investment,” said Minor. “The job creation results are in-line with the second quarter of 2016 and last year’s third quarter, however, the new payroll commitments this quarter were approximately 10 percent higher than the prior periods.”

Minor added that the project pipeline is the most robust since JobsOhio’s inception, giving JobsOhio and its partners good momentum into 2017.

A talent acquisition update was provided by JobsOhio Director of Talent Acquisition Cheryl Hay; Columbus State Community College President David Harrison; and Honda of North America, Inc. President of Talent Acquisition and Deployment Scot McLemore. JobsOhio is currently scaling-up an array of customized talent services that focus on talent attraction and sourcing, new hire prescreening and skill-based training for businesses expanding in or locating to Ohio.

Columbus 2020 CEO Kenny McDonald provided a regional update, noting that 80 percent of projects are with new companies looking to locate operations in Ohio. He also focused on the region’s leadership in transportation innovation, highlighting Columbus winning the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart Cities Challenge, which will help the city build a transportation system of the future; and the Smart Mobility Corridor initiative that is helping Ohio become the world leader in autonomous and connected vehicle innovation.
