Project Summary:

  • Type of Project: New location/relocation
  • Capital Investment: $17,300,000
  • Timeline: The company expects hiring to ramp up through the summer of 2019 and into the third quarter of the year.

Company Need:

Crocs is one of the 10 largest non-athletic shoe brands. This world leader in the footwear industry is reconfiguring its distribution network and is seeking to relocate a main distribution center from California to the Midwest. The relocation to the Midwest is due to workforce challenges in California with high wages and a tight labor pool.

The company needs to be close to population densities. It also sought a great business environment, proximity to transportation and a quality workforce.

Why Ohio?

Crocs will relocate its North American distribution operation to a site near the Dayton International Airport in Dayton, Ohio. Crocs will lease a NorthPoint Development building that covers 540,000 square feet. The new operation will give Crocs the ability to serve about 80 percent of its customers within the four days’ shipping service of the company’s “free economy shipping.”

The company performed an initial search on its own, and the Dayton region as well as the state of Ohio came out on top. Dayton has a great infrastructure and a location central to large populations, allowing the company greater reach and speedier delivery. Both a robust physical infrastructure and growth in its technology industry make Ohio a natural center for logistics and e-commerce.

Crocs is confident in the region’s availability and quality of workers to join the team. Talent was one of the biggest draws for the region, and Crocs believes that Dayton is a good fit for its growing business.

Crocs joins other e-commerce companies in the Dayton region, including Amazon, Procter & Gamble, Caterpillar, Yaskawa Motoman Robotics and Meijer.
