JobsOhio Board of Directors Holds Public Meeting In Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The JobsOhio Board of Directors held its quarterly public meeting in Cincinnati, which was hosted by REDI Cincinnati. The meeting included a review of JobsOhio’s 2017 performance along with updates on talent and regional performance.

In 2017, JobsOhio worked on 272 projects with companies that committed to create 22,788 new jobs, retain 67,849 jobs, and bring $9.6 billion in new capital investment and $1.1 billion in new jobs payroll.

“Last year, JobsOhio set a record with capital investment commitments and matched a record with commitments for new jobs payroll,” said John Minor, JobsOhio president and chief investment officer. Minor said Site Selection ranked Ohio No. 2 in the country for overall projects and No. 3 in projects per capita. He added that Ohio was ranked No. 1 for job creation in business investment projects by the Ernst & Young 2017 US Investment Monitor, and JobsOhio was ranked the third-best state economic development organization by Development Counsellors International.

JobsOhio Project Talent Acquisition Director Cheryl Hay said talent development and retention is critical to companies that want to grow jobs. She said close collaboration with local partners is imperative to retaining and expanding talent in the state. Jill Meyer, president & CEO at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, and Adam Jones, director of regional talent at REDI Cincinnati, shared their perspectives on regional and local talent programs.

During a regional update, REDI Cincinnati Vice President Kimm Coyner said REDI worked successfully on 195 projects that earned commitments of 20,100 jobs and $2.17 billion in capital investment from 2014 to 2017. In a case study of REDI’s project with Medpace, the company’s general counsel Stephen Ewold discussed the importance of growing talent and highlighted regional cooperation as a reason the company chose to expand in Ohio.
