High-Tech German Company Announces New U.S. Innovation Center

COLUMBUS – JobsOhio today announced Nanogate SE, a Germany-based global specialist in design-oriented high-tech surfaces and components, will establish a new R&D center in Mansfield. Nanogate Jay Systems, the company’s U.S. subsidiary, plans to add the R&D center to its existing facility, where more than 400 employees design and manufacture high-quality automotive lighting and interior components for major automotive manufacturers in the United States, Europe and Asia. JobsOhio is supporting the project with a $2 million R&D Center Grant.
“There has been great interest in our plastic metallization applications in the U.S.,” said Nanogate CEO Ralf Zastrau. “In light of the dynamic developments on the market, our customers appreciate our local presence in the form of an R&D center.”

The new R&D center, which should be operational in the first half of 2019, will focus on developing the process and equipment to offer numerous applications in the area of chrome and stainless steel alternatives, decorative surface finishes and innovative lighting.

With an attractive global market size, the project carries a huge upside for future production to be in Mansfield, and future company growth and many regional job opportunities.

“This announcement is a big win for Mansfield,” said Ohio State Rep. Mark Romanchuk. “The manufacturing industry in Mansfield makes up an important component of our overall economy in Richland County. Nanogate SE will undoubtedly contribute to the growth that is already taking place in our region.”
The JobsOhio R&D Center Grant Program benefits companies across Ohio that want to engage in more research and development activities by providing funding so they can open or expand corporate R&D centers that support the development and commercialization of emerging products and technologies. JobsOhio’s strategy for the grant program focuses on advancement for nine sectors of the state’s economy as well as emerging sectors ranging from advanced materials to smart mobility.
