This month, Plastics News published a new report from the Plastics Industry Association that offers a positive economic outlook for the industry. According to the 2016 Size & Impact Report, released on January 11, employment is growing and shale gas-related investments should help plastics fare better than other manufacturing sectors.

The report also shows that employment increased 1.4 percent in 2015 and that the U.S. demand for plastics hit a record $295.4 billion. Plastics industry shipments also hit the $418.4 billion mark. These numbers keep plastics as the country’s third-largest manufacturing sector, behind oil and gas extraction and automobiles.
