When it comes to luring business, Cincinnati and Columbus are among the most competitive cities in the world, according to a report released by Site Selection magazine. Both cities received accolades in the magazine’s 2017 edition of “The World’s Most Competitive Cities.”
Greater Cincinnati ranked among the top five most competitive cities in North America in seven of the nine categories included in the report:
- No. 3 for electronics
- No. 3 for food and beverage
- No. 4 for automotive
- No. 4 for chemicals and plastics
- No. 5 for aerospace
- No. 5 for business and financial services
- No. 5 for machinery, equipment and construction
The Columbus region received two top-five rankings among North American locations:
- No. 2 for automotive
- No. 3 for transportation and logistics
The World’s Most Competitive Cities report ranks top locations within six world regions based on their competitiveness in multiple sectors. The methodology considers the number of facility investment projects (from the Conway database) and several economic indicators provided by external partners.
Cincinnati was just one of 19 cities worldwide that made the top five at least six times. According to Conway’s database, businesses in Cincinnati announced more than $18 billion of investments and added or retained 70,000 jobs between 2011 and 2016.
