Dana Opens New High-Tech Light Axle Manufacturing Facility

Dana cut the ribbon Oct. 25 on its new, high-tech light axle manufacturing plant in Toledo. The new facility will create 300 jobs by 2020.

In May 2016, Dana announced plans to move production of the Jeep axles from its Kentucky plant to the facility in Toledo. The Toledo plant sits on the site of the former Willys-Overland Motors plant, the maker of the original military style Jeep.

Dana invested $70 million to expand an existing 100,000-square-foot building into a 300,000-square-foot facility that will produce enhanced versions of the Dana 30 and Dana 44 axles, which are both used in the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Liberty.

“The investment in this new manufacturing facility is another substantial example of Dana’s commitment to the city and our community,” said James Kamsickas, Dana president and CEO during the project’s initial announcement. “It is an honor for Dana to return manufacturing to the same historic site where Toledo’s automotive industry began more than 100 years ago.”

JobsOhio, the Regional Growth Partnership, Lucas County, the city of Toledo, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and First Energy partnered to offer assistance to Dana on this project.
