Company Need:

Speed and customer service are integral to Amazon. As the company looked to better serve Midwest and Southeast customers, Amazon sought locations for two new distribution centers in order to increase efficiency and capacity. Market access was critical to where the company would place its operations.

Why Ohio?

Amazon is establishing two new Ohio fulfillment centers, one in northeast Ohio, Akron, and the other in northwest Ohio, Rossford. Combined, the two facilities will create more than 2,500 full-time jobs with comprehensive benefits and opportunities to work alongside Amazon Robotics. Each state-of-the-art fulfillment center will be more than 700,000 square feet and will be used to pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and toys. With the additional jobs, Amazon will now have more than 8,500 Amazonians employed across Ohio.

Ohio has the infrastructure and strategic location that e-commerce companies want. Home to one of the nation’s best infrastructures, Ohio was recently named a top 10 best state for business by CNBC, with much of the credit going to the state’s logistics and distribution assets.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $5 billion in the state through its customer fulfillment and cloud infrastructure, and compensation to its employees. Using methodology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Amazon estimates its investments in the state of Ohio have created an additional 19,000 indirect jobs on top of the company’s direct hires.

In addition to Amazon’s $15 minimum wage, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits, parental leave, upskilling training and other innovative benefits.
